A.J. is a character created by Vange. She appeared in the episode "The Tale of the Night Nurse".

A.J. is the younger sister of Nicki. Although she disapproves of her older sister being a bit bossy and treating her like a kid: she and her sister are still very close.

One winter, their parents went away for a personal trip. Therefore she and her sister were going to be staying with their Grandpa for a month. She and her sister thought that it was going to be wonderful. Because for a month they could do whatever they wanted. Since their Grandpa was a soft touch.

Shortly after arriving, she was shoveling the driveway. When suddenly her sister started a snowball fight. They were having a great time. When suddenly out of nowhere a woman and her child appeared. They were heading into the house carrying birthday presents. Her sister ducked down just as she tried to pelt her with a fastball. It missed and hit the woman. What they didn't know was that the woman and her child had suddenly disappeared.

She and her sister ran inside the house. They asked their Grandpa where the woman was. So she could apologize for accidentally hitting her. Their Grandpa had no idea what they were talking about. So she and her sister tried to explain that they saw a woman and her child coming inside. When their Grandpa realized they meant with birthday presents. He denied it. Then he strongly said that nobody else had been invited into the house.

That night she woke up. She could hear music, noise and laughter coming from downstairs. She asked who was there. But she got no answer. Still hearing it, she slowly walked downstairs into the dining room. Here she found a lit birthday cake that read: "Happy Birthday Emily". When she turned on the lights, the cake had vanished. Suddenly she looked into the mirror nearby. In the reflection, a group of people appeared holding the cake screaming: "Surprise!". Feeling terrified she screamed. Her sister came downstairs hearing all the commotion and screaming. Her sister asked her what her problem was. But she just ran back upstairs scared straight.

The next morning, she tried to explain to their Grandpa that the other night she had heard sounds and saw visions of people in the dining room. Her sister just laughed it off. Then her sister insulted her by saying that she was only twelve. But she was already going crazy. Their Grandpa just ignored it.

Later that day, she saw the ghost of a girl. The girl was coming down the stairs, carrying a big pile of birthday presents. Realizing that she going to fall, she called out to her to be careful. The girl stopped midway to pick up her bracelet. Afterwards she tripped and the presents went tumbling. Then suddenly the girl's ghost vanished. This left scared out of her skin. So she screamed.

Hearing her scream, Grandpa and Nicki came in concerned. So she told them what she had seen. Her sister didn't believe it. Their Grandpa said that she must have seen: "The birthday girl". Up in the attic, their Grandpa explained to them that 40 years ago a girl just about her age fell down the stairs during her birthday party. She injured her leg and had to stay in bed. The girl's mother hired a night nurse to look after her. However, they say that the Night Nurse was a little crazy. One night when the girl was sleeping, she filled a hypodermic needle with poison. Then gave it to her and she never woke up. The Night Nurse claimed that she was innocent. Until the day she died in prison.

Their Grandpa revealed that he had found everything out, from when he moved into his house. The girls family had forgotten an old trunk. Which contained old newspapers and family memorabilia. Even the girl's old birthday dress. From reading the article, they learned that the girls name was Emily. Her sister then figured that her ghost haunted the house. Because of unfinished business. She had figured that Emily wanted their help. So she was trying to tell them something. Her Grandpa then advised she and her sister to not to mess around with ghosts. But to just let them rest in peace.

She and her sister soon let curiosity get the best of them. So they decided to contact Emily's ghost. So they bought a chocolate cake and lit the candles. She and her sister called out to her telling her happy birthday. Then they invited her over to come and have some cake. When that didn't work, they realized they could at least enjoy the cake themselves. Then she blew out the candles, her sister made a wish for the ghost to appear. However she and her sister got more than they bargained for! Tampering with birthday magic, caused the ghost of the murderous Night Nurse to appear! The Nurse was armed with her needle. She told them that it was time to give them a shot! They both ran off screaming, feeling terrified.

When they told their Grandpa, he was furious. He regretted telling them the story. Since he knew that it was going to scare them. Their Grandpa didn't believe that the ghost of The Night Nurse had appeared. Because all the years he had lived in the house, the only ghost he had ever seen was Emily's. Apparently she was harmless. Once again he asked she and her sister to stop fooling around with ghosts. Her sister then ran up to the attic to search for clues in the trunk. To see if they could help Emily. She soon joined her. Then she decided to try on Emily's birthday dress, and it was a perfect fit.

Suddenly, the attic was tidy and her sister was gone. She was now dressed like Emily. Confused she walked around looking for answers. She saw the big pile of birthday presents. Then a woman at the bottom of the stairs, refereed to her as Emily. It was Emily's mother. She told her to bring her presents downstairs. So she could open them. She was shocked to realize that when putting on the dress, she had been transported through time. Also that she was now Emily. She quickly took off the dress and returned to the present.

She explained what just happened to sister. But she didn't believe her. She scoffed at her. Then she asked if the Nurse was there as well. When opening the door to head back down, The Nurse was there. She told them that she had been waiting for them! Her sister locked the door, realizing they were doomed. Then she suggested that she would go back in time as Emily, and not fall down the stairs. By not falling down the stairs, Emily will never get injured. Therefore she will never meet the cruel fate of the Night Nurse's poisonous needle. Therefore they would no longer be victims of the Night Nurses' ghost who was now after them.

Her sister became worried that she may mess things up. So her sister wanted to be the one to do it. However the dress would not fit her sister. Therefore her sister reluctantly let her do it. Therefore she put the dress back on and was transported back to the past again. As Emily she mapped out everything very carefully. As she saw her "mother" again. She warned her to be careful coming down the stairs.

When she was partway down, she carefully put the presents down to pick up the bracelet she had dropped. She realized that bending over suddenly to grab it must have made Emily trip in the first place. She cheered and began to feel overconfident. Therefore she quickly climbed down the rest of the stairs. Then suddenly she tripped, tumbled down and passed out. Her "mother" came running to her side, crying out for a doctor.

A little later, she woke up thinking it was a dream. Only to realize that she was in Emily's bedroom. She was now in the clutches of The Night Nurse! The Nurse thought that she has had some memory loss, when hearing her say that she wasn't Emily. The Night Nurse tried to seem nice. She said that she understood that she had quite an accident. Now she wanted her to help her and give her some "Medicine".

Just was she was about to be given the shot, she threw it away into a nearby teddy bear. The Nurse told her not to do it again. She panicked running around looking for a place to hide. Everywhere she went, The Nurse instantly appeared. She told her that she could not hide. In fear for her life, she tried to take off the dress. But now it was stuck this time.

She encountered The Nurse over and over again. The Nurse now became very exasperated and grabbed her by the head. She bit her to get free. The now impatient Nurse told her that with one little prick the penicillin would make her feel all better. Hearing this, she remembered that Emily dropped her bracelet. Which happened to be her medical alert bracelet. She quickly told The Nurse that she was allergic to it. The Nurse (probably heard this many times from people who hated needles) didn't believe her at first. Then she seriously told her that she was. So she showed her the medical alert bracelet that read: "Penicillin".

The Nurse, looked at it very seriously. She became very serious and asked her to never take it off again! The Nurse then became very emotional. It was almost like she was going to cry. The Nurse told her that without that bracelet on, she didn't know. Therefore, if she gave her the shot, she might have been killed from an allergic reaction! The Nurse promised to give her no more penicillin shots. Then she nicely helped her out of the dress.

Then she was sent back to the present. She explained to her sister that The Night Nurse only made a mistake. She didn't mean to kill her. The whole thing was a misunderstanding. Looking through the trunk, they now discovered that Emily's history was altered. Emily didn't die. She graduated from high school in 1965, and went on living. Then her sister applauds her for not screwing things up.
