It has been announced that the second season will air on February 12, 2021.[1] In the second season, a new group of members tell a terrifying tale about a curse that has been cast over their small seaside town, haunted by an all new villain named the Shadowman.

The second season will have a six episode miniseries. Just like the previous season, they will air one episode at a time on a weekly basis. So far three of the upcoming episodes have been confirmed.

  5. The Tale of the Midnight Magic
  6. The Tale of the Darkhouse

In March 2022, it was announced that a third season will air sometime in 2022. [2] It has so far been confirmed that the third season will consist of four brand new one hour episodes and a brand new Midnight Society.

Plot and casting

According to Variety, "The new members of the Midnight Society for this updated series have been named as Gavin, played by Sam Ashe Arnold, Akiko, played by Miya Cech, Louise, played by Tamara Smart, Graham, played by Jeremy Taylor, and Rachel, played by Lyliana Wray." Additionally, there will be a circus ringmaster named Mr. Tophat, portrayed by actor Rafael Casal.[2]

The mini series will air on October 11, 2019. It has not yet been confirmed what the story will be about, but it has been confirmed that Rachel will be the one telling it.

Ross Hull, the actor who portrayed Gary in the original incarnation of Are You Afraid of the Dark?, claims that he has not been approached for any part in the revival and expressed concerns over how fans might react to this.[3]

At the 2019 New York City Comic Con executive producer Matt Kaplan mentioned that this “felt like the right time” to be bringing back the series, with horror reboots reaching an all-time high in movie theaters today. Kaplan also went onto say that he felt that Grabinski was his first choice to write the script. Grabinski himself spoke about the “tricky balance” to bring the show back in an era where our “fear tolerance is much higher,” making it scary enough for today’s horror fans and watchable enough for the intended, younger, audience. Still, Grabinski’s love for the original balance of horror and watchability was a massive part of crafting the show. It was also revealed that The new Midnight Society will be a lot more developed than the OG group. However, the new series will forgo the structured, anthology format of the original show. Fans of the original series can look forward to the new opening credits for being an homage to the original, and will will have easter eggs harkening back to the original series sprinkled throughout as confirmed by Kaplan and Grabinski. [4]

The mini series was WildBrain's last live-action production to be produced under the DHX Media name, before the company rebranded under the WildBrain name itself on December 25, 2019.

In 2021, the second season, titled Are You Afraid of the Dark?: Curse of the Shadows, will include a cast of six new members. Luke, played by Bryce Gheisar, Jai, played by Arjun Athalye, Hanna, played by Beatrice Kitsos, Gabby, played by Malia Baker, Seth, played by Dominic Mariche. And, Connor, played by Parker Queenan.
