The two warriors represented a struggle between good (the warrior clad in white) and evil (the warrior clad in black). The Most significant feature of the small wooden box was its contents. It contained six valuable golden fortune cookies. The cookies were magical and were able to grants wishes and alter reality. Whether or not he ever used the fortunes cookies himself is unknown.
During the events of the story, the restaurant was doing poorly facing rough times. Therefore an advertisement was place into the newspaper to hire another part-time cook. Therefore his family would eventually more help.
Also he had became increasingly concerned about his grandson David. David was in such a hurry to leave the restaurant and go off to art school. He was worried about him, wondering whether or not he would be making the right choices or the wrong choices in life. He also began to develop suspicions about the produce courier Eddy. Eddy was a shady and dishonest thug. Eddy had been stealing money and tasting food without permission. Along with harassing his granddaughter to date him.
One Saturday, his son Charles and David had a disagreement. David wanted to have the night off, to attend a friend's party. But his son said no. Since Saturday night was their busy night. So David's help would be needed His wife encouraged him to considered letting him have the night off, but he felt that hey needed all the help they could get. David got really mad and complained that he never got a break, to do what he wanted to do. Then David snapped saying that he wished that their restaurant would shut down. So he would have to slave in it anymore.
Later that evening, he decided the time was right to pass the fortune cookies onto his Grandson. He explained what the chest was and what the warriors on it represented. He told him that the chest was not meant to be opened. Only admired for what it appeared to be and not what was inside. But still he had a feeling that his grandson would open it and find the fortune cookies.
His Grandson wasted no urged in wanting to sell the fortune cookies. In order to get tuition money and leave for art school. Suddenly his Grandson opened one by mistake. It told his Grandson: "One should find perfect existence, through imperfect existence".
Suddenly his Grandson was taken by a warrior representing his Grandson's bad side into an alternate world. One where he never had a grandson, he only had his granddaughter Theresa. So being short handed the Lee family hired a professional cook named: Mr. Chin as their other cook. Which proved to be a very wise choice. Mr. Chin lead the restaurant to fame and success. This changed his son and his daughter-in-law into rich snobs. However as a ripple effect he died a long time ago.
However before he passed away, he had passed down the fortune cookies to Theresa. His Granddaughter on the other hand became a rebellious punk who never knew enough to stay away from the wrong type of guys. So his Granddaughter began dating the shady petty thief produce courier Eddy.
In this alternate world, his Grandson David had became a rich and successful comic book artist. One in which he had no family to hold him back from becoming. But soon enough his Grandson did the right thing: His Grandson decided that him having everything he really wanted was not worth it, if it meant giving up his family was the only way to get it. So his Grandson's good side won.
So reality was restored to the way that it was. His Grandson was part of his family again, his Granddaughter was no longer rebellious and he was alive again.
His Grandson was so happy and thrilled to see he was part of the family again and to find him alive again. His Grandson told him that he believe that finally "perfect existence, through imperfect existence". Hearing this he proudly smiled at him. He told that he had learned a most valuable lesson.
Suddenly Mr. Chin came in to apply for the job of becoming their new part-time cook. His Grandson had remembered him from the alternate reality. Therefore David had a very good hunch about him. Therefore his Grandson convinced the family to just hire Mr. Chin right on the spot.
