- Stanley says he knows everything that goes on in this hotel which he says includes "the laughing in the dark, the whispering walls, all the mystical mirrors that knock in the dead of night". He goes on to say the Veil has become a prison for "captured souls and lonely ghosts"
- Jonas Cutter's name is taken from the titular villain from The Tale of Cutter's Treasure.
- One of the pages in The Book of Shadows is of a smile dripping goo with "HaHaHa" written all over it, a likely reference to the Ghastly Grinner.
- One page includes the music notes and spell used in The Tale of Badge.
- The inscription on the gravestone that is read aloud is the same one from The Tale of Old Man Corcoran.
